The theme of re-animating and reviving cult film traditions, representations and technologies is also central to the Cine-Excess 2025 online international conference, which runs between 20-23 October, alongside a separate in-person symposium which takes place in Birmingham on Friday 24 October.

As part of this event, we are delighted to host Dr Xavier Aldana Reyes as our keynote speaker. Dr Aldana Reyes is a founding member of the Manchester Centre for Gothic Studies, co-president of the International Gothic Association, and the author of such monographs as Contemporary Body Horror (Cambridge University Press, 2024) and Gothic Cinema (Routledge, 2020). His Cine-Excess 2025 keynote presentation 'Re-Animating Body Horror: The Return of a Cult Subgenre’ will take place between 3.30pm-4.30pm on Wednesday 22 October.

Dr Xavier Aldana Reyes' keynote will be complemented by over 40 additional talks and discussions provided by international scholars who will be participating in the Cine-Excess 2025 conference.

The Cine-Excess 2025 conference is open to scholars, students and members of the public.

Tickets can be purchased as a
